Welcome to the Gaynes LRC - Virtual Information Centre

A Focus for Individual and Flexible Learning.

Feel free to visit the real LRC where you can explore and discover what we have to offer! You will receive a warm welcome and find plenty of great resources to encourage you to use our department regularly

Mission Statement

  • To encourage and support reading for study and leisure.
  • To provide resources for the taught curriculum and a broad knowledge base.
  • To stimulate ideas in cross-curricular issues, culture and citizenship.
  • To provide students with facilities to investigate and make use of flexible learning techniques.
  • To encourage all students to become independent learners using a wide variety of sources.
  • To assist with the development of students' Information Literacy skills.

Resources for Loan and Use In-house:

There are 11,000+ books, CDs, DVDs, videos, maps and magazines which students and staff may borrow. Books may be borrowed for up to 2 weeks at a time;(School holidays are not included in the loan length calculations.) A wide range of Reference material is available including up to date encyclopaedias and

All members of the school community are eligible to borrow items.

Reminders for overdue items are sent out at regular intervals and we will not lend any further items to anyone with a poor borrowing history. A reservation system is available and users can also suggest items for purchase. All requests will be considered. We have a computerised management system using Eclipse.net; online catalogue searching is possible from all school computers.

Computers:

10 Networked PCs are available in the LRC with a selection of general and subject-specific software, internet and printing facilities for students to use and filtered Internet access, scanners, b/w and colour printing facilities in both areas.

Careers:

The Connexions Careers Resources and software packages are available in the LRC annexe and our Careers Advisor is in school once a week offering a lunch time drop in service for pupils.
