Curriculum
The Faculty’s aim is to give every student the very best experience of language study, by
In Year 7 all students are introduced to a variety of languages, normally three or four chosen from French, Italian, German, Russian and Spanish. They also follow an introductory module which aims to consolidate the techniques of language learning which were acquired at primary level. We aim to offer language experiences at a variety of levels, enabling students who have already gained some language at primary level to further expand their learning.
In year 8 all students study two languages chosen at the end of year 7. Their choice is based upon personal preference, but also may be influenced by other factors, such as family holiday choices, or family links in another country. These two chosen languages will be continued in year 9.
In year 9 (current) all students are following a historical curriculum, with all students learning French and Italian. This is the last year in which this curriculum will run. The students have just selected their desired language for year 10, choosing from French, Italian, or Spanish as core language, with German and Russian also being offered as options.
In year 10 all students are studying their chosen language, which this year has been chosen from French, German, and Spanish.
In year 11 (current) all students are following a historical timetable, with all students studying French, and a further group studying Italian as an option.
