Curriculum

KS3

During the three years of KS3 (year7-9) students listen to music from different eras, genres and cultures, they explore why the music sounds as it does, are given the chance to compose to a given stimuli, and perform to the class. The students also learn how to evaluate and appraise each others work.year 7, students learn the basics of music composition, performance, listening and appraising. Topics studied include: the basics of music (notes, names and values of the treble clef); elements of music and musical description (beat, rhythm, pitch, tempo, volume and texture); basic music composition and accompaniments (how to compose and chords); families of the orchestra.in year 8 builds on foundations of year 7, by developing and composing new music and performing in front of others. Topics studied include: the basics of music (notes, names and values of the treble clef), Medieval music and fanfares; Caribbean music.in year 9 are encouraged to make improvements to their work and others by using peer assessment. Topics studied include: Jazz and Blues, Baroque music, Waltz, Film Music.

KS4

Music at GCSE is a two year course, following the OCR Examinations Board which consists of four units. Components within this course include, performing, composing, listening and appraising.within this course is 60% coursework and 40% exam. For more information please use the link below.

Extra Curricula

The music department offers a range of extra curriculum clubs during lunch time and after school from school choir, flute group, School of Rock bands, MC club, brass group and a school orchestra.groups have an opportunity to showcase their talents at different concerts we produce throughout the year. We have a Christmas concert and an evening of carols by candlelight, our very own 'Gaynes Factor' and lastly our summer soiree which is a collective concert, at the end of the academic year filled with dance, drama and music.
