RE

Curriculum

The RE department comprises of two full time members of staff within the Humanities faculty.
In year 7 and 9 all students have one lesson of RE/PSHE per week and in year 8 one lesson of RE following the Havering Agreed Syllabus. In year 10 and 11 all students take a short course GCSE (Edexcel).

  • What Happens when we die? / Ultimate Questions


Year 8

  • Worship
  • Evil and Suffering
  • War and Peace
  • Prejudice
  • Environment


Year 9

  • Ways of Finding the truth
  • Science and Religion
  • Moral Issues

Key Stage 4

All students have one lesson per week and complete a GCSE RE Short Course EDEXCEL Unit B Religion and Life from A Christian Perspective. The course is assessed through an external examination. The course consists of four sections:

  • Believing in God
  • Matters of Life and Death
  • Marriage and the Family
  • Religion and Community Cohesion


There is an opportunity for students to take a twilight course to complete a full course.
The twilight course offered is Religion and Society. The course is four sections:

  • Religion Rights and responsibilities
  • Religion Environmental and Medical Issues
  • Religion Peace and Conflict
  • Religion Crime and Punishment
