Citizenship - Term 1 - What is a Community?
Half Term 1: What is a Community?
Throughout the first half term students will learn about communities and what makes a community. They will begin by identifying the communities they belong to before analysing one of them in more detail.
Week 1
Students will identify all of the different communities they belong to.
Week 2
Students will be encourage to think about what makes a community and whether all communities are the same.
Weeks 3 & 4
Students will create a detailed diagram of their local community focussing on the many people, places and things that make it.
Weeks 5 & 6
After identifying something they would like to see changed in their local community students will draft and then write a letter to a local politician outlining their views and arguing for change.
Assessment
The diagram in Weeks 3 & 4 and the letter written in Week 6 will form the basis assessment along with the teachers notes on students contributions to class discussions.
