Topics covered 2014-15 will be:

  • Home, Home Town and Local Area

  • Hopes and Aspirations-future and conditional tenses

  • Invitations: Linking tenses (past, present and future)

  • Languages Work!

  • Live Long!

  • Holidays as a final bridging unit allowing for transition to GCSE.

In the final unit, pupils will begin their studies at GCSE level.
We begin this with a unit all about them aiming to write a controlled (exam) assessment about their life as a teenager in October of Y10.

Cross-curricular links and visits:

We are actively working with other faculties to build cross-curricular opportunities to use MFL skills in other areas of the curriculum such as European Days of Languages, One World Nights, study exchanges and visits. It is hoped that all pupils should have the opportunity to visit France during KS3, and again in KS4 hopefully on residential, cross-curricular visits to northern France.

Years 10 and 11 (Key Stage 4)

We try to match both pupil academic profile and aptitude to specific skills with the most appropriate language course. Year 11 see pupils studying one of four GCSE languages (French, German, Italian or Spanish) or our Applied Learning option through ASDAN’s Certificate of Personal Effectiveness both aiming to secure B grade equivalent.

Year 10 pupils will all study for Edexcel’s GCSE in French. Pupils will be placed in groups according to their current linguistic expertise and experience.

Topics to be covered will be:

  • This is me!

  • Free time

  • Home town and local area

  • Holidays-past present and future

  • At school and future plans

  • Work, chores and future plans.
